Traffic signal on Broadway at 125th Street casts a strong shadow in the brilliant sunlight of a December afternoon.
Towering over the signal is the Manhattan Valley viaduct, which carries the
three tracks of the [IRT] 1 Train, into 125th Street station above Broadway.
The impressive 2,174-foot-long (663 m) elevated structure carries the Broadway–Seventh Avenue Linehigh above the natural valley that surrounds 125th Street in the western reaches of Harlem where it blends into the Manhattanville and Morningside Heights neighborhoods.
