Artist's Description

Red signals protect the crossover move of the Metropolitan Avenue-bound M Train from the Myrtle Avenue station onto the newly rebuilt Myrtle Ave Viaduct. This busy station is where M trains diverge from the right of way they've shared with the Jamaica Line J and Z trains from the Manhattan end of the Williamsburg Bridge.
The signals prevent a Jamaica Center-bound J or Z train that might be on that center track from moving until the M has completed its transit onto the Myrtle Viaduct and the crossover switches have been reset. Similar protections exist on the center track beyond the crossovers to hold Manhattan-bound J and Z trains while the M's crossover move is in progress. The train on the left, a Manhattan-bound M is completing its transit from the viaduct and will stop to board passengers at this station.
