Description
If the soaring seagull suggests to you the proximity of the ocean, you are correct.
Coney Island is where Brooklyn says 'hello' to the Atlantic Ocean, and Stillwell Avenue Station on the New York City Subway system is but a short walk from the boardwalk and beach at Coney Island.
At the platform in foreground, an F Train has just completed its long journey that originated in Jamaica, Queens, crossed under the East River, transited Manhattan via the Sixth Avenue Subway, tunneled again beneath the same river and crossed a wide swath of Brooklyn to finally arrive here in the salt air.
On the upper level, a Q Train is about to depart in the same direction before curving to follow the seascape to Brighton Beach before heading through another swath of Brooklyn to cross the Manhattan Bridge and head uptown via the Broadway Line before briefly re-greeting the F at 63rd and Lexington and then heading up the Upper East Side on the Second Avenue Line.
