Artist's Description

I've always loved these green/white globes against a twilight-blue sky. The ones here, in this eastward view along E 42nd St in Manhattan, represent but a few of the many entrances to the expansive subterranean complex on multiple levels below that is the Grand Central-42nd St Subway Station.
It is here that the Lexington Avenue [IRT] East Side Line (4, 5, and 6) trains curve diagonally westward to begin following Park Avenue to the south, and meet (about) perpendicularly with the 7 train (34th St-Hudson Yards to Flushing-Main St), on the lowest level, its tracks running deep beneath 42nd St on their way to the tunnels under the East River. There is also a passage to the Grand Central-Times Square Shuttle trains.
