Artist's Description

A view between cars of the 1930's vintage R1/9 train of the Transit Museum's Holiday Nostalgia Train across the tracks to an R160 F Train consist. The F Train on the downtown local track is bound for Brooklyn and after another two stops will scoot under the East River via the Rutgers Street Tunnel.

The setting is the (IND) F Train 2nd Avenue station, where the tracks run under E. Houston Street on the border of the Lower East Side and the East Village. The Nostalgia Train has just returned from 145th St in Harlem and will soon depart for another express trip uptown under the streets of Gotham.

The popular Holiday Nostalgia Train trips were not run in 2020, due to the Covid pandemic. Hopefully, they will resume this Holiday Season; no word yet. The photo was taken in December 2019, when I last enjoyed the experience; it makes its first appearance this year.
